Enter an original price and percentage discount to see the amount saved and the resulting sale price. The calculator is useful for shopping, promotions, price planning, and checking whether a percentage-off offer is better than a fixed-dollar discount. Remember that stacked discounts are applied one after another, and sales tax can change the final amount you actually pay.

Calculate a sale price and savings amount

Enter an original price and percentage discount to see how much is removed and what the discounted price becomes.

The basic discount formula

discount amount = original price × discount rate

sale price = original price − discount amount

For a $120 item at 25% off, the discount is $30 and the sale price is $90.

Multiple discounts are applied one after another

“20% off, then another 10% off” is not the same as 30% off. A $100 item falls to $80 after the first discount and then to $72 after the second. The combined reduction is 28%.

Tax may be calculated after the discount

In many situations, sales tax is calculated on the discounted selling price, but rules can vary by jurisdiction and promotion type. If tax matters to the final amount, use the sales-tax rules that apply to the transaction.

Compare percentage and dollar-off offers

A percentage discount scales with price. A fixed $20 discount can be better on a low-priced item while 20% can be better on a high-priced item. Convert both offers to the same final-price basis before comparing them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

Divide the sale price by one minus the discount rate. If $80 is the price after 20% off, 80 ÷ 0.80 = 100.
