Word & Character Counter
Count words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time instantly as you type or paste text.
Check the size and structure of a piece of text without uploading a document or opening a larger editor. The counter updates as you type and shows words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time. It is useful for application fields, social posts, ad copy, metadata drafts, essays, scripts, and any task where you need to stay within a practical length target.
Measure the length and structure of a piece of text

Why word counts can differ between tools
There is no single universal rule for tokenizing every piece of text. Hyphenated words, contractions, URLs, emoji, punctuation, and languages that do not use spaces can be counted differently by different software. For most normal English prose, the difference is small.
Characters with and without spaces
A character limit may or may not include spaces depending on the platform. If you are preparing copy for a form or publishing system, check which interpretation that system uses.
Reading time is an estimate
Reading-time estimates are usually based on an assumed words-per-minute rate. Actual speed varies with topic difficulty, formatting, language, and the reader. Use the number as an approximation, not a promise.
Useful writing checks beyond the number
A longer piece is not automatically more useful. After checking length, look for repeated ideas, oversized paragraphs, vague headings, and sentences that can be made clearer. The goal is enough information to answer the reader’s question without padding.
Frequently asked questions
Does the tool save my text?
The counter is designed to process text in the browser rather than act as document storage. Keep your own copy of anything important.
Why is the sentence count approximate?
Abbreviations, decimal numbers, headings, and unusual punctuation can make sentence boundaries ambiguous.
