About Probably Useful

Probably Useful is a collection of simple browser-based tools and straightforward guides built to solve everyday problems without making them more complicated.

Sometimes you need to calculate a percentage, check sales tax, format a piece of JSON, build a URL, or work out a payment fee. You probably do not need a new app, an account, a trial, or a ten-minute tutorial first. You just need the answer.

What we are trying to build

Our goal is to make small utilities that are fast, understandable, and pleasant to use. Each tool should do one job clearly, explain what it is doing, and get out of your way.

Probably Useful is designed around a few simple ideas:

  • Useful before impressive. A tool should solve a real problem before it tries to look clever.
  • Plain language. Instructions and results should make sense without specialist knowledge.
  • No unnecessary friction. The basic tools should work in the browser without requiring an account.
  • Context matters. When a calculation or format needs explanation, we publish a guide alongside it.
  • Keep improving. Tools and guides can become outdated, so we review and update them as the information around them changes.

Who Probably Useful is for

The site is built for anyone who wants to finish a small task quickly: business owners, freelancers, developers, students, office workers, creators, and people who simply do not want to open a spreadsheet for one calculation.

Why the name?

Not every tool will be useful to everybody. But the right little tool at the right moment can save a surprising amount of time. That is the idea behind Probably Useful.

Tools and guides belong together

A calculator can give you a number, but sometimes you also need to understand why that number is correct. That is why we pair practical tools with readable guides, examples, formulas, and limitations where they matter.

If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or have an annoying little problem that deserves a tool, please use our Contact page to let us know.
